In the United States, it’s estimated that over $10 billion is spent per year on plastic surgery. When you add in the rest of the world, the total spent must be a staggering number! One of the most popular procedures is a nose job, which is technically referred to as rhinoplasty surgery. However, this procedure is by no means cheap. Beware of these three things so you don’t get ripped off:
1. If needed, make sure you won’t have to pay for a revision rhinoplasty
If you go with a board certified plastic surgeon that is highly skilled in rhinoplasty, hopefully they will be able to do it right the first time. But sometimes, a secondary (or revision) rhinoplasty surgery is needed to achieve the original goal. The first surgery might not have turned out how you wanted due to surgeon error, having a difficult nose to work with, or a combination of the both.
This is most likely to occur with severe nasal deformities or bulbous tip rhinoplasty. Whatever the case, most ethical surgeons will not charge for a revision (but you will still have to pay for anesthesia and the operating room). Before your nose is touched for the first time, make sure the plastic surgeon will not charge you if a revision ends up being needed.
2. Check the rhinoplasty forums to see what other patients are saying
Even if you love the doctor’s before and after nose job pictures, keep in mind they are only showing you their best work. This is why you should browse the rhinoplasty forums and discussion boards, to see what others are saying about them.
3. Don’t be fooled by a plastic surgeon’s fancy marketing
Some are good surgeons and businessmen, others are just good businessmen. Be wary of the plastic surgeons which depend on aggressive marketing. The best doctors don’t need to do this, because they get new patients through word of mouth. Be especially skeptical of the plastic surgeons you see on TV shows that are more concerned about being famous than practicing medicine.
