College is full of so many wonderful experiences. For most students, it designates their first taste of true independence.
College provides an excellent education, which often serves as an important step towards the rest of your life. College can also provide lifelong friends and your first taste towards the real world. Through all of the joy and new experiences that college can hold, it can also bring about some unpleasant experiences—though they don’t have to be.
One of the most challenging things for many students as they enter their college years is to stay healthy. With close quarters and illness being prevalent, it’s easy to get sick. So here are some simple but effective ways to stay healthy in college.
Boost Your Immune System
As you are sure to come into contact with a variety of people and a great potential for illness and germs, do your part to boost your immune system. The stronger your immune system, the more likely you are to stay healthy. You can boost your immune system by taking a Vitamin each and every day. You can also strengthen your immune system by eating well and exercising regularly. Though those aren’t always popular choices in college, they can serve you well as you try to stay healthy through all of the potential germs.
Wash Your Hands
You are destined to come into contact with many public surfaces. Whether you live in a dorm, apartment, or a house, you likely live with other people. Even if you don’t, you are constantly in public places such as classrooms, the library, or the student union. As you encounter these public places, be aware of all the surfaces touched by many other people in a given day, many of which may be sick. Wash your hands whenever you come into contact with these surfaces, especially before eating. Keep a hand sanitizer with you in pinch as it’s fundamentally important that you wash away any germs that you may come into contact with to stay healthy.
Don’ t Share Your Drinks or Utensils
As you develop good strong friendships, you may be apt to share your utensils or drinks with them—don’t do it! This is a common way that many college students get sip. Just taking a sip out of somebody else’s drink or letting them take a taste of your food using the same utensils is a surefire way to share germs. This is an easy thing to avoid and may very well make the difference between you staying healthy or getting sick. Keep your utensils and drinks to yourself, and don’t share others just to be safe.
Staying healthy in college doesn’t have to be difficult. You just need to be in tune with the very things that can make you sick, and do your best to avoid them. Stay healthy, stay strong, and wash away any germs that you may come into contact with.
